As with other cosmetic surgery procedures, I strive to bring harmony and symmetry to the face. The chin is one of the facial structures that contributes to overall facial harmony, perhaps more than others do. If you feel that your chin recedes, is prominent or is asymmetric, there are surgical procedures that can change your facial harmony.
Surgically moving the chin forward or back, or lengthening or shortening is called a sliding genioplasty (genio = chin). In most instances, a chin implant is used to reposition the chin forward. However, bone surgery can reduce the size of your chin or change its vertical height, as well as increase its prominence.
For several months you may have areas of tightness and numbness in your chin and may have some difficulty moving your lips and chin normally.
