Linton A. Whitaker, M.D. is known in the Philadelphia area, nationally, and in many parts of the world, as a leader and pioneer in plastic surgery. While he has done research and concentrated in several important areas of plastic surgery, his dominant interest is aesthetic surgery of the face, born out of his pioneering work in craniofacial surgery. His focus is on the aging process and changes in fundamental facial form to affect one's physical appearance and psychological outlook.
In 1988, Dr. Whitaker founded the Edwin and Fannie Gray Hall Center for Human Appearance and serves as its Director. The Center is a team of medical specialists who are committed to the study and treatment of appearance-related conditions. Patients have the advantage of widely recognized specialists in dermatology, oral surgery, ophthalmology, psychology and plastic surgery. The collaboration of these physicians and surgeons brings a special approach to appearance-related problems.
Publications such as Best Doctors in America, Philadelphia Magazine and Town & Country regularly give Dr. Whitaker recognition as being one of the best in the field of Plastic Surgery.
Internationally recognized, Dr. Whitaker lectures to professional audiences and scientific organizations worldwide: Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, India, Malaysia, Russia, Sweden, Italy, France, Great Britain, Holland, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, Australia and New Zealand, as well as many major medical centers in the United States. He holds honorary memberships in medical societies in this country and five foreign countries.
Dr. Whitaker is a graduate of the University of Texas and Tulane University Medical School. After an internship at Montreal General Hospital in Canada, he completed a general surgical residency at Dartmouth Affiliated Hospital, Hanover, New Hampshire, and a plastic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He is board certified in Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Whitaker has edited three surgery textbooks and coauthored two others. He has also authored and coauthored more than 200 papers on plastic surgery of the face. The most recent book is Aesthetic Surgery of the Facial Skeleton. As a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Dr. Whitaker is active in medical education and the training of residents.
